Dance Imagination’s History

Dance Imagination is a modern repertory dance company of young people from Burnaby, B.C. with members ranging in age from 6 to 18.  This non-profit organization was founded in 1990 by Chris LePage and Dawn Howey. The dancers work with professional choreographers as well as having the opportunity to choreograph their own pieces.

Dance Imagination performs at elementary schools around the Lower Mainland area, entertaining and educating school age children.  They also perform at community events like Burnaby’s Discovery Days, Canada Day, New Westminster’s Hyack Festival, Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, local and provincial dance conferences, and have appeared three times at a national dance conference in Seattle with the Kaleidoscope Dance Company.  Dance Imagination has also performed at Cavalcade of Stars, Burnaby’s Centennial Celebrations at Swangard Stadium and the Pacific National Exhibition, Simon Fraser University, Showcase 2000 and other special events.  Each June they produce their own show at the Shadbolt Centre to premiere their new dances.

Dance Imagination has performed and taught dance on 6 occasions at the triennial “dance and the Child international” dance conferences in Copenhagen, Denmark (2015), Kingston, Jamaica (2009), the Hague, The Netherlands (2006), Salvador, Bahia, Brazil (2003) and in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada (2000).
