What is daCi?
dance and the Child international was founded in 1978. The goals of daCi are to recognize the right of every child to dance; to promote dance opportunities for children throughout the world to experience dance as creators, performers and spectators; to preserve a cultural heritage of all forms of dance for children; to promote inclusion of dance in general education and to stimulate the exchange of ideas and encourage research related to children’s dance.
The first “dance and the Child” international conference was held in Edmonton, Canada in 1978 with others following every three years in Stockholm, Sweden, Auckland, New Zealand, London, England, Salt Lake City, U.S.A., Sydney, Australia, Kuopio, Finland, Regina, Canada, Salvador, Brazil, the Hague, the Netherlands, Kingston, Jamaica, Copenhagen, Denmark, Adelaide, Australia & Toronto, Canada. Through demonstrations classes, lecture demonstrations, performances, workshops papers and panels the conference provides a forum for exchange of information on the subject of dance and provides a networking mechanism in the international arena.
Dance Imagination has travelled to, attended and performed at the daCi conferences in Regina, Canada, Salvador, Brazil, the Hague, the Netherlands, Kingston, Jamaica, & Copenhagen, Denmark.
